Creating your first site

Creating a WordPress site on Kelma takes about a minute. This guide covers launching the site, pointing your domain, and logging into WordPress — plus what happens automatically behind the scenes so your site is fast and secure from the first request.

Create the site

  1. Open Sites in the main menu and click New Site.
  2. Enter your domain — for example yoursite.com. Do not worry if it is not pointed at Kelma yet; you can connect it later.
  3. If your account has more than one server, choose which one should host the site.
  4. Click Create. Kelma provisions the site, installs the latest WordPress, and switches on caching, SSL, and the firewall automatically.
Tip: Building a staging or test site? Use a subdomain like staging.yoursite.com or just rely on the temporary .kelma.io address. You can always add the real domain afterwards.

What gets set up for you

Every new site arrives fully configured. You do not need to touch PHP versions, cache plugins, or server settings:

  • Server-level caching — full-page cache at the edge plus Redis object caching.
  • Free SSL — an HTTPS certificate is requested as soon as your domain resolves to Kelma.
  • Daily backups — automatic, off-server, with one-click restore.
  • A web application firewall — blocking malicious traffic before it reaches WordPress.
  • A system user and database — created for the site so it is isolated from your other sites.

Point your domain

Open your new site and find the DNS Configuration table on its overview page. Add the CNAME (or A) record shown there at your domain registrar or DNS provider. Once it propagates — usually within minutes, occasionally up to a few hours — your domain serves your Kelma site and we issue a free SSL certificate automatically.

Building first? Every site ships with a temporary .kelma.io address, so you can install your theme and content immediately and switch the domain over when you are ready to go live.

Log in to WordPress

From the site is WordPress tab, click Secure Admin Login to open wp-admin instantly — no password required. This signs you in as an administrator through a one-time secure link, which is safer than sharing reusable credentials and perfect for handing access to a teammate temporarily.

A quick launch checklist

  • Set your site title and permalinks in Settings.
  • Install your theme and essential plugins.
  • Confirm the domain shows the padlock (valid SSL).
  • Run a manual backup before importing large amounts of content.

Choosing a domain to start with

You can create a site before you own its final domain. Many people build on the temporary .kelma.io address first, then attach the real domain once the site is ready. If you are redesigning a live site, build the new version on the temporary address so visitors keep seeing the current site until you are happy to switch. When you do go live, you simply point DNS at Kelma and set the real domain as primary — no rebuild required.

Frequently asked

How long until my site is reachable?

The temporary .kelma.io address works the moment the site is created. Your real domain becomes reachable as soon as its DNS records propagate, which is usually minutes but can take a few hours depending on your provider.

Is WordPress already installed?

Yes. Each new site arrives with the latest WordPress installed and caching, SSL, and the firewall switched on. You can log straight in with Secure Admin Login and start building.

Can I delete a site I created by mistake?

Yes, from the site is settings. Deleting a site is permanent and removes its files and database, so export anything you want to keep first.
